Knee

The knee is the largest, most intricate joint in our body. All of the various bones, ligaments, and tendons that make up this joint’s composition are constantly in motion which makes them increasingly susceptible to injury as time goes on. The pain that comes along with serious knee issues can ultimately take control over someone’s life but, luckily, there are a number of proven methods out there to help heal the knee back to full capacity.

The most common injuries that the knee could face include fractures, sprains, dislocations, and tears. The majority of reported injuries also frequently involve two separate structures of the knee simultaneously. Regardless, crippling pain and swelling are almost always guaranteed when any one of the following most common knee injuries occur:

  • Fractures: Most commonly caused by severe impact to the patella or kneecap. The conjoining tibia and femur are also at risk of fractures as well.
  • Dislocation: When the bones in the knee are jolted out of place due to abnormalities in the joint’s structure or high impact trauma.
  • Ligament Injuries: The Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) is most often damaged in intensive sporting events. Posterior Cruciate Ligament Injuries occur when the knee is bent, making car crashes a leading cause.
  • Meniscus Tears: Any awkward motion including the twisting or pivoting of the knee can cause these natural shock absorbing pieces of cartilage to tear.  It’s been known that  arthritis can lead to meniscus difficulties as well.
  • Tendon Tears: The quadriceps and patellar tendons surrounding the joint can be stretched or torn from extreme activities such as running or jumping.
